What to Expect For Your First Visit
When you visit our practice for your initial consultation, Dr. Solly will take the time to get to know you and evaluate your symptoms. At the end of your discussion, he’ll provide a take-home sleep test that will monitor your breathing overnight. A qualified sleep doctor can examine the results of your test and give you a professional diagnosis.
If they determine you have sleep apnea, Dr. Solly will work with you to find the ideal treatment that meets your specific needs.
Treatment Options
Typically, the first treatment recommended for sleep apnea is a CPAP mask, which pumps pressurized air into your lungs while you sleep. This keeps your airway open and allows you to breathe without interruption.
Unfortunately, many patients find CPAP masks too bulky and uncomfortable for sleeping. The machine also makes a noise which can be disruptive, and it’s not easily portable if you’re traveling. As a result, CPAP compliance rates are low.
If you’re looking for a more comfortable and convenient alternative to CPAP, Dr. Solly can customize a mandibular advancement device (MAD) just for you. These appliances subtly shift your lower jaw forward to keep your airway unobstructed while you sleep. Many patients who start with CPAP end up preferring this less invasive option.
We’re proud to feature Narval™ CC by ResMed and SomnoDent by SomnoMed®, two of the leading oral appliances in dentistry.
